The word chakra comes from Sanskrit meaning “wheel” or “circle” and refers to specific energy centers in the body. Generally speaking, there are seven basic chakra points beginning with your root chakra and ending with your crown chakra. They are all energetically connected and are associated with the four main body parts: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. When charkas are out of balance they cause disharmony within the body and affect many facets of your being.
The root chakra is associated with the color red and is located at the base of the spine. It relates to your basic needs of survival.
The sacral chakra is associated with the color orange and is located just below your belly button. It relates to relationships, sexuality, intimacy, fertility and creativity.
The solar plexus chakra is associated with the color yellow and is located between your heart and navel. It relates to your self-confidence, self-esteem and inner strength.
The heart chakra is associated with the color green or pink and is located in the center of the chest. It relates to expression of love, kindness, compassion, tolerance and understanding.
The throat chakra is associated with the color blue or turquoise and is located in throat area. It relates to communication and verbalizing your own truth.
The third-eye chakra is associated with the color indigo and is located behind the center of your forehead. It relates to your intuition.
The crown chakra is associated with the color violet and is located above your head. It relates to your connection with God, enlightenment, peace and wisdom.
